Marin Alsop was awarded the American Music Center's Letter of Distinction at a reception
during the National Performing Arts Convention (NPAC) in Denver in June. The award was presented to Alsop by AMC's new Board Chairman, composer Steven Stucky.
Pulitzer-prize-winning American composer Steven Stucky will assume the role of Board Chair of the American Music Center beginning July 1, 2008. He succeeds Augusta Read Thomas in this position. Stucky will work with Edward Yim, Board President, as well as with CEO Joanne Hubbard Cossa.
The American Music Center honored American leaders in contemporary music on May 5, 2008 in New York City as part of AMC’s Annual Meeting. Awardees included Steve Reich, Robert Ashley, Joan La Barbara, Edgar Meyer, Ned Rorem, Joan Tower, and Derek Bermel.
The American Music Center (AMC) has made grants totaling $212,450 to 27 dance companies in New York City and New Jersey as part of the 2008 round of the Live Music for Dance Program.
AMC has awarded grants totaling $35,000 for the production of performance materials to 28 composers through the winter round of the Composer Assistance Program (CAP). The awardees are American composers ranging in age from 25 to 66, residing in 10 states.

The Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Inc. has awarded grants totaling $321,750 to performing ensembles, presenters and recording companies across America through its 2007 Recording Program. 32 organizations received support for new releases and for reissues of contemporary American music.
